C. i Calloway describe the new high school building scheduled for the fall term at their first meeting of 1950. According to the speaker, the building will be a one-story structure of the California of architecture. The structure will be a one-story brick veneer providing numerous windows in comparison with the old style school building. There will be nine classrooms, a library-study hall combination, a science department consisting of a lecture-laboratorv combination.

Of special interest is the loading ramp to be located at the rear of the building v. hich will enable buses to load and unload students in a dry protected place during bad weather. The new high school will be located in the corner formed by the intersection of highway 80 and the Good Road at Holly Ridge, on land gen- erously donated for this purpose by Jesse Cochran. It is estimated by school authorities that approximately two hours per day will be saved by pupils attending school due to the shortened i routes of the school buses. Two hours is a long time according to leading educators when the time may be sf ent at home and in preparation for school.

Included on the program was Mrs. Leila Lyle, Richland parish librarian, who urged the members to take advantage of the splendid educational opportunities offered school children and adults through the branch libraries one of which is located at Holly Ridge, the bookmobile and the main library in Rayville. Chester Krumm, West Monroe, discussed the many teaching aids of the school along with the visual aids program, He expressed the need of black shades which would enable the school to use the splendid visual aids facilities to a greater advantage. The group wa.s delighted with the first presentation of a group of first year piano pupils of Miss Gloria Carroll of Oak Ridge. This is the first year Holly Ridge School has had a piano teacher and parents and teachers were greatly pleased with the progress of the pupils.
