We call thd ntteilfion of strangers and the citizens of Monroe ami surrounding country to our entire 1 stock of ready-made clothing for men and boys, which we have just received for the fall and winter trade and whicli will be found as complete in all respects as that of any clothing house in the country. Our stock was purchased at the lowest figures for cash, and in consequence will be able to sell at the very lowest prices.

This The John Howard passed down Sunday night with 1000 bales of cotton. The Corona did not get off last Saturday as advertised. She left the Crescent City yesterday evening for Camden. Since our last report the river has fallen two feet and is still falling at the rate of four inches every twenty-four hours. The D.

Stein arrived down early Monday morning. She departed the same morning for the Saline with a light freight. We wish all of our steamboat friends a happy New Year, and hope that their business in the river will increase tenfold. The Willie arrived down Monday morning from Trenton. She left a few hours afterwards for the Bartholomew with a light freight.

The Rosa B. from the Bartholomew passed down early Monday morning with 1000 bales of cotton. She is the only through boat in the Bartholomew The Ollie B. arrived last Thursday from the DArbonuc 401 bales of cotton. She departed Monday morning for the same bayou with a good freight.

She may be looked for down late to-morrow evening. The Laura Lee arrived yesterday morning from below with a light freight, discharging a part of it on the Katie for the tributary packets. She leaves early this morning with 1000 bales of cotton and 200 sacks cotton seed. The John Ilanna, in place of the Fred A. Blanks, arrived early last Saturday morning with a fair trip.

She put off a large lot at this, place. She passed down early Sunday morning with 1400 bales of cotton. She received CO bales from the merchants at this place. The il. Hanna Blanks, Capt.

Jack W. Blanks new boat, has a carrying capacity of 1800 bales of cotton and has accommodations for seventy-five passengers. She cost 30,000 and will enter the Ouachita trade in a short while as a weekly packet between New Orleans and this place. The Fair PI a arrived last Friday from the Bartholomew in a dilapidated condition. Capt.

Rabun, her commander, is having her overhauled from stem to stern. She will be ready to leave to-morrow for the Bartholomew. She brought down 305 bales of cotton and 200 sacks cotton seed. The Rotal St. John Sewing Machine is something new and has improvements that make it preferable to all others.

Different from other makes, it never breaks the thread, and sews perfectly on a right or left motion. There is no backward action. It is not only a first-class, well finished machine for all kind of work, but a curiosity in mechanical adaptability. A sample is on exhibition at Rills book store, and it will be a pleasure to have it examined by any body. The machines are sold under a guarantee, and I will see that they meet the reasonable expectations of every purchaser.

Friday promised a disagreeable following. Rain fell all day, and the wind was sharp and from the north. During the night clouds were swept off and moon and stars kept watch and ushered in the morning. The sun came out early and stayed all day. A merry Christmas was at hand.

Santa Claus had come and gone. No suspended stocking was slighted and old and young were happy in some kind remembrance. A Suggestion. Make your friend a New Years present of a subscription to the Bulletin and New Orleans Weekly Democrat for 1881 both papers will cost you only 3. The Baptist parsonage is in course of construction.

It will be small but comfortable. Remember that you can buy a Parker or Colts Brccch Loading Gun at $5 less than list price. Mr. Rills is agent for these celebrated guns, and offers this inducement to keep money at home. Ammunition and attachments for all kinds of breech loaders constantly kept on sale, such as crimpers, pocket cleaners, cappers, loaders, chargers, primers and brass shells all at lowest figures.

A large stock of cigars and tobacco at bholar? drug store. The South Carolina Minstrels arrived on time. Their reception at the depot by an eager and expectant populace was worthy of the fame of the troupe and in keeping with the generous consideration our people are always ready to show merit. They appeared on the stage at 7 :45, in the grand overture, in presence of a crowded and appreciative audience. No company could have been more handsomely received or given more general satisfaction.

It would be out of place in us to make comparisons all the performers did well and if there was any falling behind it was the part and not in the man. The minstrels have onr thanks for their splendid entertainment and our best wishes for their success on every stage.

The proceeds were 275 and will be devoted to the Masonic Lodge. As will be seen from the appointments, Trenton and Monroe make the circuit of our future pastor for the Methodist church. Rev. Benjamin F. White, a brother of Rev.

II. O. White, will be in charge. We have heard much favorable commeut on Mr. White as a leader and feel assured that he will be appreciated and assisted in the work before him.

Fine watches skillfully repaired by Fassold. The Masonic ball and supper, Tuesday night, 'was a creditable affair, notwithstanding the weather. It was going on at the time of our going to press. Some planters have been busy with their cotton and will have a quantity to pick in January. Save money by substituting grates for fire places.

The quarterly meeting of Stonewall Lodge, Knights of Pythias, will be held to-night at 7 :30. Officers for the ensuing terra will be elected. Dr. A. Sholars is sole agent for the celebrated Franklin Cross Roads Sour Mash Whisky.

For purity, strength and flavor this whisky is unexcelled. Read the advertisement. Judges Farmer and Mayo will open the January session of the Circuit Court next Monday. The docket is said to be large and they may be engaged upon it for two weeks or more. The weather is unsettled, cold and cloudy.

A more disagreeable winter cannot be remembered. At 1 p. m. Tuesday it commenced drizzling and fair weather prophets are not to be found. Frank Hatcher, an industrious carpenter, died suddenly Wednesday night of heart disease.

He was a widower and leaves several children of tender years on the charity of friends. The Methodist congregations of Trenton, Monroe and Delhi will take leave of their late pastor, Rev. C.W. Carter, D. with regret.

For scholarship, piety and devotion, Dr. Carter is both a light and a guide, lie has been assigned to Felicity street church, New Orleans. The Bar gave Col. John S. Young a farewell dinner at Enssmingers last Friday.

It was a compliment to a deserving man, and was served in a style and taste that did honor to all concerned. The Colonel and family took the Hanna for Shreveport Sunday We commend them to the people of their new home for all the good qualities that go to make valuable citizens and estimable neighbors. May the hopes and aspirations of the mind be realized and satisfied. May plenty reward labor. May happiness crown love. May peace and good will prevail between all countries and among all men. In referring to the advertisement of the Louisiana State University and Agricultural and Mechanical College we take pleasure in saying that it is in every way deserving of patronage at home and abroad.

John McEnery is spending the holidays in Monroe among the friends of his youth. Chas. B. Ray, a gentleman well known in Monroe, has located in Delta, where he will practice Jjiw. H.

B. Holmes, formerly of this city but now the efficient clerk and distinguished citizen of Madison parish, has been on our streets for the last few days.
