Herring, mayor of the city of Monroe and chairman of (he (joint) committees having in charge the Ouachita bridge enterprise, accompanied by Mr. M. S. Ilasie, special engineer, visited and addressed the polioe jury in reference to the proposed bridge. Mr.

Ilasie presented elaborate drawings with plans specifications, all of which he clearly and fully explained after thorough discussion Mr. Breard, presented the following resolution: Resolved, that the president of the police juiy appoint as acorn mittee five members from this bodv to meet at 10 o'clock a. Wednesday June 9, at the city hall Monroe, the Bridge Committee of the council of the cily of Monroe and M. S. Ilasie, E-q special engineer, to consider the dra wi'Ts, pi-ee, icoitloatiuiis ut a bridge to be used for public travel across the Ouachita liver ut the city of Monroe, and should such plans, specifications cost, etc be satisfactory to and meet the approval of the said committee, then they are authorized to state that the police jury of Ouachita parish will appropriate for a period of ten years.

863. Fourth, from citizens of ward 9, for two bridges on Prairie Ion Bayou on Thomas and McCrainie road. Granted, see Ordinance No. 863. A committee from the Business Mens League of the city ot Monrod.

Dr. T. O. Brewer, chairman and pokesman, addressed the police jury, asking tfiat the parish taxes to be paid nnuuully by the V. P.

R. K. for a period of ten construction of a bridge for public travel across the Ouachita river at the city of Monroe, and that the president of the police jury appoint a committee (representing the body) to confer with the bridge committees of the Business Mens League and the council of the city of Monroe relative to the matter After discussion Mr. Myatt, seconded by Mr Sexton moved that the appropriation be granted and that a committee of three members of the police jury to be appointed as requested. Motion'adopted by the following vote.

Of Mr, Isidore Haas, a gentleman who lived nnd was once well kniwnin this city the Picayune of yesterday says: The death of Isidore Haas, which occurred at 5 oclock yesterday morning, deprives the city of useful citizen end a wide circle of a beloved friend.

Mr. Haas was a man of great business ability, sterling integrity, and possessed many social qualities He was a native of Rheinf halz, Geimany, and at the time of hie death was in his 54th year, lie came to this country at the age of 16 and settled in north Louisiana, on the Ouachita river. At the age of 17 he enlisted in the Confederate in the Caldwell Guards. He served in the army of Vitginia and participated in twenty-two hard-fought battles. After the war be returned to north Louisiana and engaged in a merchandising business in that section and in Mississippi.

He then transferred his resi-deriBB to this city and opened a produce commission business. He abandoned this about ten years ago in order to accept an agency of the New York Life Insurance Company, which he retained till his death. Jr Result, ayes 4, nays 2.
