Johnson, Lottie: 1 p.m. today, Cherry Raise Councilman Ben Katz said he believed the mayor's compensation package is already adequate. From page 1A city's elected officials shouldn't receive raises before the city employees. "Unless everybody at the table gets some," Johnson said, "I'm not going to." Katz said he believed the mayor's compensation is already adequate. "The present salary package with benefits is already more than $90,000.

Katz said. "I think KatZ it's already competitive with other cities our size. At a time when our budget is tight and raises for all of our people aren't available, I think the timing is very poor for raises for both the mayor and council." After the votes on the two issues, a frustrated Stevens hinted at resigning from his council seat. "I do care, con trary to what's been said, about what hap pens to the employees," Stevens said. "I guess that thats not working, and I shouldn be here.

Stevens Mayo said raises placed in the pro posed budget were fair. Despite claims by union members. Mayo said he's continued to fulfill campaign promises that he's trying to find money in the budget for across-the-board raises. "They have gotten more under my administration than any other administration," Mayo said. "I've taken every opportunity I get to communicate to them about our budget position and what our goals are.
