Gowan was born August 24, 1940 in Navasota, TX and passed away at her home in Winnsboro Sunday, August 27, 2006. She attended and graduated from the University of St. Thomas in Houston, TX. Following graduation, she returned to Navasota to teach school and it was there that she met her future husband Dr. George Gowan.

Following their marriage in 1963 she moved to Winnsboro and began her life in Louisiana. Though always devoted to her native Texas she became a vital part of life in Winnsboro through her involvement with the community as she raised her children and helped her husband in his Veterinary practice. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and served many years teaching the youth of that church. The love of her family was closely followed by the love of her church.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Lanier Garner Grice and her father James L. Grice, Sr. of Navasota, TX. "Mama Kay" is survived by her husband of 43 years Dr. George Gowan; one daughter and son-in-law; Katherine and Patrick Brown of Ruston, LA, and their children Foster and Meredith; three sons and daughters-in -law: Jim and Terry Gowan of Grayson and their children Garrett, Lillian, and Neal, Bill and Tracy Gowan of Louisville KT and their children Janet Kay and Alica, and John and Lisa Gowan of Dallas, TX and their son Ian, two brothers and sisters-in-law; Jim and Mana Grice and Johnny and Minette Grice of Navasota, TX; her gentle and caring friends and caregivers, Colleen Williams and Rose Barber.

A special expression of deep application is offered to the staff of Hospice TLC of Winnsboro, Dr. Roger Smith, and Dr. Jay Busby. Their kind, attentive care brought comfort not only to her but her family as well. Pallbearers will be Dr.
