parked outside a Christian television station at 500 Peach St when Parker was stabbed once in the heart The boys were attacked by two black men wielding butcher knives Keith brother Chad and another Sterlington boy Ben jamin Hobson were BE seriously injured during the attack Status: Police released a composite of one of the attackers several days after the stabbing but no arrests were made El Cynthia Malsch began compiling un solved murder cases after what ap peared to be a string of recent area murders some of which remain under investigation They found that while the local clearance rate ex ceeds the national average by almost 20 percent 37 cases remain open in The News coverage area Technically all cases remain active Because there is no statute of limita tions in murder cases those respon sible could still be tried James Townsend Age: 13 Address: Monroe Date: Sept 28 1985 Circumstances: Townsend was beaten to death at the Ark La Miss air by a gang of youths The murder weapon was never determined but it is believed to have been a bottle Status: No arrests were made Brenda Spicer Age: 18 Address: Jena Date: March 6 1986 Circumstances: Her partially nude body was found in a trash dumpster in the Strauss Hall parking lot on the NLU cam pus Spicer a former NLU basketball play er had been strangled and possibly raped Status: ivrin Bol den was arrested and tried for the mur July 8 1986 Circumstances: body was found in a burned pickup truck behind Monroe Sand and Gravel Co on Downey Pines Road in West Monroe about 8 am The charred remains of her body were found on the Stafford who had been discharged recently from the US Navy was reported missing at 8 pm eb 15 1980 by his mother He was found dead in his car by a passer by about 1:15 pm the next day near Concordia Lake in erri day He was shot twice in the chest with a38 caliber pistol Status: Authorities had suspects but no arrests were made Earl Smith Age: 59 Address: Bob Clayton Road Clayton Date: April 1 1985 Circumstances: Smith was found dead about 7:30 am in his home by his brother who lived with him He was shot once with a 22 caliber pistol Nothing was taken from his home and there was no evidence of forced entry It appeared that Smith was holding the door to his bedroom closed when a shot pierced the door and entered his body under his left arm Status: No arrests were made El Charles May Age found Oct 4 1984 in Lake Providence and her body was found by a hunter about 11 am Oct 6 1984 in a ditch off a gravel road north of Lake Prov idence She died from multiple traumatic injuries and the living room of her home She was found nude had been raped and was strangled with a piece of cloth Her neph ew was the last person to see her alive Status: Morehouse Parish Of fice had a suspect at the time but there sufficient evidence to charge the man EQ William Henry Holmes Age: 25 Address: Brunswick Ga Date: Sept 17 1981 Circumstances: Holmes was last seen in Georgia in July 1981 His to the head Bess had been arrested in connection with the shooting death of Geraldine Young at her residence on 119 Langwood Drive He was released on $50000 bond and was awaiting trial at the time of
